RAG Austria AG is Austria’s largest energy storage company, and one of Europe’s leading gas storage facility operators.
Our business focus is market driven storage, conversion and conditioning of energy in gaseous forms.
With storage capacity of around 6.4 billion cubic meters of natural gas, the company operates around 6 per cent of all gas storage capacity in the EU. A large proportion of the underground natural gas reservoirs developed by RAG have already been converted into energy storage facilities capable of making the stored energy available at any time and at high capacity. In doing so, RAG is realizing the vision of ‘sustainable energy mining’ – defined as the long-term, resource-conserving reuse of existing reservoirs – and thereby making a decisive contribution to strengthening the security of supply in Austria and Central Europe.

RAG developed and operates a total of 11 pore storage facilities (porous reservoirs).
These include the storage facilities in Puchkirchen/Haag, Haidach, Haidach 5, Aigelsbrunn and the 7Fields interconnected gas storage as
well as the hydrogen storage facilities in Pilsbach and Rubensdorf.
The company develops innovative and forward-looking energy technologies focused on green gas, such as hydrogen, that partner renewables. In doing so, RAG Austria makes a valuable contribution to achieving ambitious climate targets and ensuring a reliable supply of raw materials and energy for Austria.
