RAG Austria signs Memorandum of Understanding with Eco-Optima on H2EU+Store project

CEO Markus Mitteregger and Tatjana Weilert took part in a delegation trip to Ukraine on behalf of RAG Austria at the beginning of April 2025.

Together with around 60 other representatives of leading industrial and infrastructure companies, they accepted the invitation of the Federation of Austrian Industries Lower Austria to take part at the trip led by Johanna Mikl-Leitner, Governor of Lower Austria.

Signing of a memorandum of understanding for the H2EU+Store project

At a business forum held jointly with the Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, four memorandums of understanding were signed between Austrian and Ukrainian partners, including the memorandum of understanding between RAG Austria and Eco-Optima on the H2EU+Store project.

Following the finalization of the feasibility study, the next steps for the implementation of the ramp-up of hydrogen production in Western Ukraine as well as for transport, storage and use in Central Europe were defined.

Due to its proximity to Central Europe and the existing pipelines, the import route from Western Ukraine has great potential for the rapid, real implementation of green energy imports in the form of hydrogen.

Meeting with Ukrtransgaz

The trip also included a meeting with Ukrtransgaz, a partner in the H2EU+Store project, at which experiences in the field of hydrogen storage were exchanged and the geological potential of Ukraine for storing hydrogen was discussed.

The delegation trip was organized by the Federation of Austrian Industries Lower Austria, Advantage Austria Ukraine and Aussenwirtschaft Austria.
