Natural gas vehicles
Natural gas has vast potential as a transport fuel. A natural gas vehicle (NGV) can emit 25 percent less CO2 and 80 percent less CO than a petrol-powered equivalent, and unlike the latter causes virtually no emissions of benzene or fine particulates – both very harmful pollutants.
Consumers who opt for NGVs no longer have to make any sacrifices in terms of performance and driving pleasure, and both Austria and Germany already have well developed natural gas filling station networks.
Gas powered heavy goods vehicle and bus fleets are already widespread. A future move to power-to-gas technology would overcome the biggest problem associated with electric vehicles, namely energy storage, without requiring new infrastructure.
