Print

RAG operates its underground gas storages facilities in Salzburg and Upper Austria, which are pore storages.

Gas Storage Puchkirchen

Puchkirchen/ Haag  underground gas storage facility

Gas was first found at the Puchkirchen site in 1956. The conversion of the former gas reservoir into a gas storage facility and its expansion was being carried out in several stages and started already in 1982 and was completed by 2009. In the summer 2009 the Puchkirchen site was connected with the Haag reservoir. Currently, the underground gas storage facility has  a working gas volume of approx. 1.1 billion cubic metres with injection and withdrawal rate of approx. 520,000 cubic metres of natural gas per hour.

Haidach 5 underground gas storage facility

The conversion of the former natural gas reservoir into an underground gas storage facility started in 2005/2006. The storage has a working gas volume of approx. 14 million cubic metres of natural gas with injection and withdrawal rate of a 20,000 cubic metres per hour.

Aigelsbrunn underground gas storage facility

The first production from this reservoir took place in 2001. From 2008 RAG has been converting this reservoir into an underground gas strorage facility. The operation of this storage facility started on the 1st of April 2011. The storage has a working gas volume of 100 million cubic meters of natural gas and injection and withdrawal rate of 50,000 cubic meters per hour.

New storage projects

Due to the growing demand for storage services, RAG, as concession holder, is proofing the suitability of existing gas reservoirs for their conversion into underground gas storage facility. Further inforamtion about potential development and extension of storage facilities can be found under Storage Development.
