Scheme of production through perforations
Christmas tree
Following casing and cementation, a “christmas tree” is mounted on top of the well in order to safely shut-in the well. The christmas tree is linked to the production pipeline transporting oil or gas to the next facility (see SP-OS).
Perforation
During perforation channels are shot into the casings and the cement into the reservoir.
The holes thus generated allow inflow from the reservoir into the well.
Cased hole test (CHT), production test
Similar to the open hole test, the CHT is used for investigating the reservoir size and characteristics, but in this case in an already completed, cased, and cemented well.
Production tests are carried out when the well is onstream so as to obtain exact data on pressure and production rate.
From drilling to producing
When drilling has been completed and official permits for production have been obtained, the well’s status turns into "producer".
